Edward Williamson, Sole Proprietor
Now that you have taken the time to read my website, which I very much appreciate, I would say that an introduction is in order. My name is Edward Williamson, though I go by EJ or Ed most of the time. I trust that you are well and, I might add, may just be looking for some transcription work. If not, that is okay; I am glad you are here. Anyway, I was born in the San Diego area and spent my first 11 years growing up in Fletcher Hills, a distict of El Cajon. My father, who worked at the San Diego Zoo as a lead tour guide, was transferred to the Wild Animal Park in 1972 and promoted to manager of the train tours. Upon that transfer, we moved to the quaint rural town of Ramona, where I lived until I turned 18 and went off to college.
For my high school years I attended San Pasqual Adventist Academy, a Seventh-day Adventist boarding school, graduating in 1979. I had the opportunity and thrill, in addition to my regular curriculum, to study classical organ. Those were wonderful years. Although I was a good student and enjoyed all of my studies, my favorite subjects were Music, History, and English.
After graduating high school, I attended college at Loma Linda University/La Sierra Campus in Riverside, California. There I majored in Liberal Arts. Liberal Arts is the preferred major for those desiring a career as an elementary school teacher. I graduated with a B.A. in 1983. Before commencing my teaching career, I decided to stay at La Sierra as the Assistant Director of Campus Safety and Security, which allowed me to slowly pursue graduate studies while starting to build a nest egg. I enjoyed that position for the next three years, but in the summer of 1988 I decided that it was time to launch my teaching career.
So, over the next 30 years of my life, I taught fourth and fifth grades. It was a fulfilling and wonderful career. Helping children succeed and learn to be independent thinkers was one of my fondest joys. I had the privilege of not only guiding and mentoring them through fine literature, but to teach them the drafting, editing, proofreading, and publishing process of writing. Needless to say, I graded, evaluated, edited, and proofread countless essays, poems, letters, reports, research papers, and journals. During my career, I had the privilege also to teach one-quarter of a school year of high school literature and composition. Due to my wife’s health issues, work-related politics, and desiring a new path forward, I decided to retire in June of 2018.
Looking for a way to start a business from home, I came across the highly rated Transcribe Anywhere course in General Transcription. With my background and training, I knew I found my new niche. I fell in love with transcription. With superb mentoring, a rigorous yet fun, online course that was pedagogically sound, and with time and patience, I passed the course and earned my certification in General Transcription. So, here I am – a general transcriptionist who is the sole proprietor of my own transcription business, EJWillTranscribeIt.
With the advances in AI in the field of transcription, I decided to expand my business. So, in January of 2024 I enrolled in the Digital Scopist course through The Court Reporting Academy. I earned my certificate in Digital Scoping in September of 2024. AI is here and has made its presence known in the transcription industry. So, I have embraced it and am combining the strength of artificial intelligence in speed and formatting with the human ability to understand nuance, word choice, and voice.
Outside of work, I enjoy music, reading, cooking, working out, jogging, playing board games, and spending time with my wife, grown children, and two grandsons. I am a classically trained organist who has been an organist/choirmaster for various churches over the years. Though I like good quality music of all genres, I am partial to classical and sacred music. I do enjoy sports and am a fan of the LA Angels of Anaheim, and as I played basketball I cheer on the Los Angeles Lakers.
So, while it is true that I am in business to make a living, I also am grateful to have the opportunity to help others to have success through my skills of the written word.
